The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford
4.0

Midcentury modern chic lit indeed! While it hasn't aged COMPLETELY in tact, it was 1) a very interesting snapshot of language/culture of the time period, and 2) a lighthearted novel masking deep undercurrents of sadness and suffering--interesting choice to not have an internal dialogue for Linda, but rather to just admire the shopfront, as if taking for granted that yes we all have troubles but here's the fun stuff, the CHAT. And to ponder the question: is it better to hold out for true/passionate/intense but brief love, or to be loved in a muted but lasting way? Are they even both forms of love, or something else (lust and security, respectively)? Etc. Anyway also some really funny caricatures that if they were done today would be horrifying but couched in Mitford's genial tone are silly.
