Normal People
by Sally Rooney
Okay, going into this, I didn’t expect much because of the miscommunication trope and how much I hate it—but this was beautiful. I hated Connell in the beginning, but I also understood where his actions came from. The miscommunication was written so well. Yes, if they had communicated properly, the book would be so short and they wouldn’t break up so many times—but that’s also the point of the book. Sometimes people have a hard time communicating their needs and feelings, and while that’s not ideal, they can’t do better at the moment.
