Bitch Planet, Volume 1: Extraordinary Machine by Kelly Sue DeConnick
5.0
Bitch Planet is a world run by The Fathers where women who don’t conform to their rigorous standards are labeled ‘non-compliant’ and sent off-planet to prison. But it is so much more than that. It’s the best of women in prison exploitation films, combine them with science fiction set in a dystopian future and add a heavy dose of feminism written in a powerful and careful voice by DeConnick. The plot constantly twists and turns to reveal new complexities at each page while de Landro’s art is inspired. All the women of Bitch Planet are written and drawn as unique individuals, none more so than Penny Rolle, who loves who she is just as she is, thank you and is willing to fight to be who she is. There is intentionally nothing subtle about this series. It is purposely loud, angry and in your face in all the right ways. A must have in your collection for all the non-compliant patrons in your community.
