Hmm, a strange one really. The plot, in terms of the events that happen, is generally pretty good. It's the stuff that he leaves out which, as always, makes it challenging to read. The whole book is essentially a plan coming to fruition but we're not told what the point of the plan is until the final pages. Also there are then some intermediate chapters which seem to just be filler, and while they appear significant to the characters, they don't really change them.

I did like the characters though. They were written better than previous characters and it was nice to have a proper cast.

Overall, one of the better of the series so far despite it's rating. I think it just lost it's way a bit towards the end.

~500 more pages to go in the form of Chapter House and I'll be interested to see how I feel when reflecting upon the whole series, given the two huge time jumps and the way it makes the original book (which is the best) appear quite insignificant.
