Born of Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout
2.0

I'm not sure if some of the other series I've recently read have ruined all other books for me, or if this was truly that bad.

The first 65% of the book dragged on and I ended up skimming the dialog just to get the gist of what was happening. Most of the events did not further the story. If I hadn't invested so much time into books 1-3, I would've DNF'd this at 11%. It was very hard to stay engaged with this book and want to know what was going to happen. Some of the dialog was just cringey and cheesy, but not in a cute way. I did appreciate seeing which gods replaced each primal, as I was confused about that in the Blood and Ash Series. Otherwise, I was bored and just waiting for it to be over.

My biggest issues are with Sera, though.

The general lack of communication between two married adults (not for Ash's lack of trying) got old really fast. Sera refusing to talk to her own husband about her trauma for 70% of the book was annoying.

Sera having the same internal conflict ("I was lucky, my captivity wasn't so bad compared to others'") over and over was annoying.

Sera thinking something, someone answering her, and then her questioning if she actually spoke out loud was annoying.

Sera constantly telling people not to bow to her was annoying.

Basically, Sera was annoying and I'm glad I'm done with this book.
