Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges

4.0

This book gave me all the feelings. While many for children {whom I read the book to}, it was still great for me, an adult. I hadn't read much about Ruby and her story until this book, and my goodness, what a year she went through!! Even though she may have just been obeying her parents, she was still so brave to endure all she did. I honestly don't think many children today would have gone through her experience as well as she did. Reading about the women (and other children) screaming death threats and other obscene things at a little child made me rage inside. I am just so utterly appalled that grown women can be so insanely cruel to a young child, all because her skin colour is darker than theirs.

I am glad Ruby included what she was doing after that year and a little about her thoughts about losing her childhood that year, but that she also came to realize just how important that time was.

My children give it 5⭐s and all quite enjoyed hearing and learning from this story of Ruby Bridges
