I like McFadden's works - even the lesser books. Am not sure how many books she's written, but I've finished 22 now. Someday, I might have read them all. This one was one of her better books.

By now, I know what to expect of McFadden: some combination of a toxic relationship/friendship born of insecurity and/or jealousy that drives gaslighting, a victim who keeps ignoring their intuition, a romance requiring revenge, and at least two plot twists. There were three twists I could count in this book, and the first and third were really effective for me. The first one had me scratching me head for a couple of minutes. I had to reread it twice. The third one had me laughing because even though I suspected it, I was still surprised a bit.

Interested in what other readers think about the parallels to Wuthering Heights.
