The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

5.0

Original, funny, charming, brutal, likeable, eminently recommendable. My only problem with this book is the egregious fridging that cut short a sub-plot I was quite looking forward to, but then, pursuing that path would have resulted in an entirely different story to the one we actually get here. And what a story it is. Scott Lynch consistently lulled me into a false sense of security by setting up plot twists that I saw coming and allowing them to pay off, which meant that when the real twists happened I was blindsided completely (in the best way). Five star ratings, for me, are for books enjoyable enough to be reread - and this entry certainly fits the bill.
