Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi
2.0

Oh my god I cannot stress enough how annoying Juliette is. The only thing keeping me reading this whole series is Warner, Kenji and James, sometimes Adam. But Juliette is the epitome of YA protagonists who are painfully unaware of their surroundings and think that their love life is the only thing going on the world. In total fairness, I could not care less about this dystopian setting and I am reading purely for the romance. And yet, I still find her behaviour unbearable.

I can understand from a trauma standpoint her fixation with Adam and how she probably is full of unresolved issues, and that's fine. But to throw temper-tantrums, destroy Omega Point property and just be generally a bad person is hard to read, hence me bumping this rating down from 3 stars to 2. I am glad however that she gets a talking to, frequently. So at least characters aren't just ignoring her behaviour, and saying it's totally fine. I just feel like this catatonic state she's in is trying too hard to be Katniss Everdene in Mocking Jay, and she isn't doing it nearly as well.

The book definitely picks up pace and becomes more interesting once Warner is in the picture again, because let's all be totally honest with ourselves, swoon. And that love triangle? Delicious.

But I still stand with my impression from the first book. Plot and romance aside, it's just not a very well written book and I'm finding issues with pacing and tone. So, again, this book is fine. Not great. Fun to read but nothing profound.
