A Parchment of Leaves by Silas House

4.0

Silas House has a knack for writing strong & believable Kentucky women, and I've known quite a few (both sides of my family and then some.) This is the story of Vine, a Cherokee woman in Easter Kentucky who marries an Irish man during the time of WWI. House is very descriptive, and he gives the reader real characters that don't fall into the typical stereotype of "country folk," which is very refreshing. I was introduced to Vine & her friend Serena in Coal Tattoo...a much older Vine that is. It was interesting to hear about her past. I plan to check out Clay's Quilt next.
