The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord

5.0

OMG!!! I have not cried at a novel since I read the hunger games trilogy when they were released years ago.
I found myself sobbing my heart out at many parts during the story and my heart longs for a second book. I fell in love with every character and I powered through the book in one sitting.
I am not religious but I found the perspective of Lucy on regaining her faith to be so interesting and there are many inspirational moments in the book where a character will give an alternative perspective on a negative situation and it changed the way I look at some aspects of my past.
I have to try my hardest to resist not instantly re-reading but I will definitely return to this book again sometime in the future!

There are some tough topics of abuse, cancer and suicide. Though in my opinion it is not triggering unless you are currently experiencing watching someone close to you battling cancer, and even so it may be comforting to see a different (though somewhat fictional) perspective on what you are going through.
