Lessons in Chemistry
by Bonnie Garmus
The only reason I managed to finish this book was because it was so ridiculous it became hilarious. Other reviews will do more justice than I ever could, what a weird experience this book was.
I don't expect every book I read to be scientifically accurate, but if you're going to write a whole book about a scientist, make the story revolve around science, and make the main characters talk about science, some amount of research would help. Also if every character wasn't a completely insufferable arsehole that might take the sting out. No one is out here calling table salt sodium chloride at the dinner table, or making their coffee using bunsen burners and lab glassware, or learning to row by reading a physics textbook and immediately becoming an expert. This book made my brain hurt but also had me cackling. ALSO trigger warning for a violent r*pe scene in the first few chapters that was completely unnecessary and gratuitous
