Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

4.0

4.5 stars. This book grew on me. I had absolutely no motivation to read this book. However, I was in the middle of the desert and this was one of three books I had so I didn't really have a choice. I liked this book for a couple of reasons. First, this wasn't just a repeat of Farenheit 451/1984/We. I think there is a stark contrast between those books and this one. The idea behind the 1984 type books is that the government is the power that silences the people. They are stories about how freedom is taken away. BNW on the other hand, is the opposite. It's about when everything is allowed and when freedom is taken to the extreme. Everyone has everything they want in a perfect utopian society. People often compare 1984 to the events going on today, but I believe that BNW is more telling. It warns of people being consumed by technology and losing their identity because of it. Overall a great book that I would definitely recommend.
