Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami

I absolutely adored this book.

It was creepy, disturbing, insightful and immensely thought provoking.

I believe, it is a study on reality and morality, using metaphors throughout to explore human consciousness and just what drives us, and what is real and what is not. Even though it was a rather uncomfortable read at times, and others I had to re-read pages just to understand what had just happened, it is beautifully written and does what it set out to do very well.

I do have a small annoyance with the ending, as it does leave things not answered. However, I cannot begrudge it for doing exactly what made sense - there are no answers, we don't know what happens next - we never do.

Maybe it's because I enjoy dreams, and psychology and philosophy or maybe it was because I was an ex English Literature student who also did Media (gosh what kind of movie this would make!) but I loved it. However, it definitely isn't for everyone.

I would recommend this only to those who have read the trigger warnings and do not mind being in a state of confusion and discomfort throughout a novel. It is something unusual and is extremely well written.

(also though it was OBVIOUSLY written by a man, it was no where near as terribly written by a man so no complaints)
