The Heart of Smoke by K Webster

5.0

I was SO ready for this book and it didn’t disappoint! I loved The Teacher of Nothing. The Tangle of Awful wasn’t my favorite. So I was kinda worried I wouldn’t love it. But then I read the blurb and I couldn’t wait! Jude had this air of mystery about him and I wanted to know all about him. We learned from previous books that he wore a mask around people because of a fire that he got caught in. It made me so sad to know he was ashamed of himself so badly that he couldn’t even stand to look at what happened to his face. Nathan ends up hiring Tate to be the family therapist. I LOVED Tate! He was so sweet. Tate himself had a lot of trauma and was still going through such a bad situation. I felt horrible about the video his ex took of him and was circulating to his employers. Once Tate started getting to know everyone through therapy, I was so ready for things to start working themselves out with him and Jude.

Literally, I’m obsessed with Jude and with Tate. And I’m even more obsessed with them together! The spicy scenes were hot. The banter between the two was great. Them sharing intimate details about themselves hit my heart. I love Jude’s grandpa! I want my own Funky cat. Lol. I was so happy with the bond Tate formed with Willa and with Dempsey. (I’m so ready for Dempsey’s book!) I wanted to shelter Tate. And so did Jude!

The ending was WILD. I was totally not expecting the ex to be who he was. I wish I would have connected that sooner but it made for my jaw dropping. Lol. What a wild ride. Jude ended up showing his true feelings for Tate and vice versa. And Nathan showed that he wasn’t a total piece of trash dad. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome! I think this is my favorite book from the series!
