The Death Cure by James Dashner

3.0

After The Scorch Trails, I thought the reader would be given something better in The Death Cure, especially since this is the final installment.

Unfortunately, we only got more pointless scenes and needless action. I understand that this trilogy is supposed to be fast-paced and action packed, but since this is the final book, I was expecting more details on the world’s situation, clarifications about the trails, information regarding what Thomas and Teresa did before the Maze… But since Thomas refused to have his memories back, the reader is, therefore, deprived from all this information. Or should I say that Dashner didn’t know how to finish his story and put everything in a wider context? Because it surely looks like the author didn’t think everything through, so now that the trilogy has ended I still feel that a lot has been left unanswered. That is just so frustrating and unfair!

The Maze Runner was good and interesting, Dashner had a good concept and the trilogy could have been great… but only if everything fitted together by its ending. But it didn’t, so when the whole storyline is put together it feels unsubstantial and undeveloped.
