The Sandman Vol. 11: Endless Nights by Neil Gaiman

4.0

I can't quite bring myself to give this five stars, but it definitely deserves more than four--4.5 perhaps? As a fan of the Sandman and Death series, I was excited to read this and it did not disappoint! Personally, I loved the Death and Desire stories, finding them to be that perfect Gaiman-ish mix of a good story with a lot of philosophy on the nature of death, time and desire. The artwork in the Despair and Delirium stories was ambitious and incredibly emotive (and the lettering is amazing in Delirium) and really was the perfect way to discuss those two endless. For most of the characters, I understood why the story was the "one," the story being put in a collection as the representation of that endless, but there were a few that didn't quite do it for me. Dream and Destruction's stories were fine, but nothing special. Overall, a good addition to the Sandman universe (in no small part due to the talented artists who drew with styles suited perfectly the the characters) with a lot of really high points, but it felt a bit incohesive and uneven to me.
