The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

5.0

The ending was unpredictable, although I'm not sure I put the book down long enough to attempt my own prediction. Despite not really caring for the main characters in any personal way, I couldn't stop reading. A lot of it was the hints about there being a twist ending throughout the book and, as I said, I couldn't imagine what it would be. I cried at the end, simply because humans and emotions are so complex and the world is cruel. That is my takeaway. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive, but this book is powerful.
After a few minutes of processing, I realize that it also about how the people around you mean more than anything. The people you love mean more than money, which is a very applicable theme to me right now, something I want to scream, and that's probably why I cried. Furthermore, I do admit I thought of some things that I would change to make it better (subjectively of course), but I would be doing a disservice to rate it any less than 5 stars. It was impactful, teaching, and emotional. It was written so well and I look forward to reading more of Reid's work.
