"When I don't understand something, it feels like I'm floating in space."
Spacewalking with You feels like an absolute breath of fresh air in the shounen world. It showcases neurodivergent characters in a way I've never seen before in the manga medium. A lot of care has gone into the creation of this story. There were multiple times where I teared up, not only because of the characters themselves, but also the way Doronoda accurately portrays what it feels like to feel like an outsider, different from everyone else.
"... sometimes people just need a little something extra... ...so they can live like everyone else."
At its core this manga is a beautiful coming of age story. The art style is somewhat rudimentary, but overall Spacewalking with You has a lot of heart. This manga will appeal to readers who love rich slice-of-life stories with a good dose of comedy. Doronoda has created something truly special with this first volume and I'm excited to see where it leads.
Thank you Inuhiko Doronoda and Kodansha Comics for providing this book for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
