I had seen the movie adaptation before embarking on reading this novel so the plot did not come as a surprise. Atonement is both beautiful and devastating and exemplifies that not everything is as it appears. Hasty judgements can trigger a shockwave that may affect the lives of all involved. Who is it that determines you are absolved from your crimes?
