Fate of Flames by Sarah Raughley

The Good:

* The main mystery thought out the book as to Saul and the other mystery surrounding Natalya was very well written and is what kept me hooked throughout the book. Unlike some of the other reviewers I didn't have a lot of trouble following the revelations.

* The lack of Romance. Romance in YA novel can be very hard to write and be believable. While Maia does have a crush on a boy throughout the novel it never really progress to much farther. There is also so much happening in the story that it was a good call on the part of the author.

* The unique premises really drew me to this book. I have read so many dystopians and YA Novels that I have started to become burned out on them as they all started to blend together. Now I usually am a lot more selective about what books I choose to read. Just the whole concept of the the book really drew me in.

The Okay

* The lack of character development. These really only applies to Maia and Chae Rin. Chase Rin never really moves past her beginnings of a rebel. The lack of character development from Maia is more disappointing because she is the main character. Maia primely just tries to hide in the background for most of the action scenes. After showing some promise at the beginning of the book she once again goes back to her moody, worrying self. At the end of this book we do see a moment where she final becomes a badass. Hopefully Maia can continue this into the next book but truthfully I don't have much hope.

* Too many minor characters. There are quite a few people from Sect that we are introduced to and I did have a hard time keeping them all straight.
