Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh
3.0
dark fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The characters are very generic and the gender roles depicted are archaic. The emphasis on her virginity and fragility is borderline creepy, and the 'other woman' is portrayed as so evil that it made cringe so bad in misogyny. And of course, the love interest is also portrayed as an extremely strong man. Overall, I think it did a somewhat unrealistic but not too bad a job of addressing abuse and bullying. Yes, there were many red flags, but at least it opens up a conversation about these issues. It may not be the most realistic portrayal, but it gives the opportunity to discuss these topics, and I liked that it AT LEAST didn't romanticise abusers. Overall, it was like a good soap opera, and I just can't rate it any lower because I was so entertained. + it was not spicy, a real slow burn, which I didn't expect at all. I guess I'm guilty :^)
