Fly a Little Higher by Laura Sobiech

4.0

This is such a hard book to read. Having lost a dear friend to cancer and seeing how closely the timeline of her illness matched Zach's, I couldn't help but be reminded of her journey the entire time. She was also Catholic, and many of the things Zach's mother talked about, such as the Caringbridge updates and Make-A-Wish foundation were all things I saw my friend experience first-hand just last year.
That being said, the story is an emotional one for me, and I appreciated Laura Sobiech's raw and honest portrayal of their family's struggle with Zach's cancer. The world needs more people willing to be completely honest about their difficulties. Especially those who know Jesus as their Savior. Life isn't all butterflies and rainbows when you follow God. Sometimes it's tumors and radiation. However, we have the assurance that we're never alone in those challenges.
While I felt there were a few places I didn't agree completely with Laura Sobiech's views, overall this book is a touching story of faith and learning to make the most of one's life. I'm glad to have read it, and will remember it for years to come. In addition, 'Clouds' will be a regular on my playlist from now on. A great reminder to 'fight the good fight'.
