This book just wasn't for me, honestly I have had it for ages and it was a present so I kinda felt obligated to read it which might have added to my feeling of it being a slog. It seems the fantasy part doesn't start for a while and for such a long book, I need to be feeling engaged early to invest myself in the book. I also don't think coming of age books are where I am at right now, I am no longer in my teens and my tastes have changed.
