that aside, it’s hard to read from her perspective as we’re witnessing a hopeful young romantic of a woman bend her will & herself to fit the criteria of a man who doesn’t love her for anything more than her physical attributes, & it breaks my heart. how even her own subconscious (or inner goddess.. whatever the fuck that exists or why she calls it that i’ll never know) pits against her & is disappointed or upset with her when she DOESNT like or want what christian does.
reading from her perspective, this is a horror- and christian is a shein version of isiah abraham’s from ethel cains preachers daughter storyline. he wants her to hurt, he only wants her body, he makes her feel in the wrong for not craving what he does. to watch her spark fade out hurts all the more knowing what comes next in the series, for she does feel stuck with him and for some reason is under the assumption no other man will love her (which just simply isn’t true). 50 shades from anastasia’s perspective reads as a cautionary tale more than anything remotely sexy.
