The Daydreams by Laura Hankin

3.0

This was sold as a Daisy Jones type read, and it just wasn't. It's similar-ish and good, but don't go in with those expectations.

We do have my favorite -- alternating timelines. Plus, there are excerpts from a stolen diary and a few blog posts.

This made me think of all the Disney and Nickelodeon shows I used to watch and some of the memoirs and articles that have come out with those stars sharing their inside stories in recent years.

To that point, the story did wrap up as nice as one of those shows would. It fit its own genre, if that makes sense.

Katherine is a lawyer in DC who is in a committed relationship and working toward making partner at her firm. She has a plan in motion and is focused on her goals, well, until a Hollywood star's interview goes viral. Katherine's phone lights up because her former costar suggests that he's open for a reunion with of the 2004 wildly popular, but short-lived, show -- The Daydreams.

The Daydreams was promised a successful future until another costar's (Summer) diary was leaked to the press, tainting her perfect "good girl" image. Then, their live finale went off the rails, ending any hope for a box office movie and continued series.

Katherine is hesitant to return to this world until she gets a visit from Summer and realizes how she could save her former best friend's career. She'll just have to figure out how to tell Summer that she's the reason for The Daydreams's nightmare.

Bonus points to this one for randomly including a character named Todd at a karaoke bar who is told to f off. (Our pup is named Todd and that line made me lol.)
