A Mind Spread Out on the Ground by Alicia Elliott

5.0

Elliott's book is a must read for anyone seeking to understand the history and ongoing struggles of Indigenous residents of North America, both in Canada and the United States. The depth of honesty in her writing results in a compelling story of the long-ranging impacts of oppression, racism, colonialism and inequality. In addition to sharing how inter-generational trauma is passed down, she also reminds readers that strength and love and other positive attributes can be inherited as well. She uses the entirety of her experience to write this incredibly powerful memoir that I highly recommend.
