Going Over by Beth Kephart

Well, there are few things I like more than reading about 1980s Berlin, about punks and squatters and girls with pink hair who are also graffiti artists. There was a lot to love in this book that you don't often see in YA novels: a fascinating look at the history of discrimination against Turkish immigrants, beautiful prose, a community of strong(and older!) women banding together, discussions of rape and domestic abuse that were powerful but tactfully dealt with, using the lightest of touches. At times Ada felt a bit too close to a manic pixie dream girl, and occasionally the action in the story stalled/certain stuff wasn't believable, but overall this book was great.
