I was impressed from this book right from the get go. I was anticipating a run of the mill YA fantasy, but really fell into step with the world building. The MC was not my favorite, but she grew on me at the end. It didn’t matter much anyway, I was more impressed with the world the author created. This is everything a debut book should be in this genre, if the next few books are as good as this one I feel like this could be a very well loved series of teens.
The book does carry very strong themes of abuse, and I feel like it’s prominent enough that it should be mentioned beforehand.
