The romance was better constructed, but part of the build up happened in a previous short story and that's cheating. The mystery wasn't too bad, but I had a hard time connecting with the characters and their motivations, especially Jaime and Ophelia whose twisted romance is a serious element of this novel. Maybe if I'd read the Jane Jameson books first?
