Welcome to the Darkest Desires Series! A series of books written around a big gala in Paris called Mortes Ostium, celebrating and praising unalivers, serial repeaters and the like. And this is only season 1 of this series. Of course I had to begin the path at reading this series, being that I do enjoy the dark and depraved (with certain limits!). Now, I must warn you, before you sit down to read this or any of the books in this collection, read the trigger warnings FIRST! Your mental health is always important and if there is anything in the triggers that could affect you, please do not read. Again, YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IS IMPORTANT! In my review, I won’t spoil much and especially won’t reveal much on the dark themes, but please tread lightly. Now, on to the review.
So, you walk into a room and find a priest, a tattoo artist and an unhinged “spoiled” daughter of a big underground crime guy and you wonder, what connects them? Well, it's their darker urges. Let’s start with the pleasurable darker urges. There was smut, tamer than I expected, minus the first scene with Stacci (can’t give it away but that scene solidifies her wildness). I will admit, was kind of sad we didn’t get a scene with just Davi and Darwin, but this story was more plot than smut so I enjoyed what we were given.
Now, in this trio let’s begin with Davi, or better known as Father Davi. Yeah, he is a priest, works at a church, does Sunday Mass and confessions. And he is very closed off emotionally, which is understandable due to his extracurricular activities when he isn’t preaching the Lord’s name. His desire/hate for Stacci I find quite adorable, like the dude wants to end her yet can’t help but want her, and the deep partnership he has with Darwin is so nice. He believes he deserves to be alone yet, in his own way, doesn’t want to let go of either of them.
Darwin, the poisonous tattoo artist. I see him as the one with the heart of the trio. Even with his dark urges, the guy is the more “human” of the group. He would stand by Davi through it all after all the years they have shared together, and when Stacci joins the picture, there is no jealousy, just acceptance. And with time, staking his claim on her just like Davi does, when he has his moments of clarity.
And, last but not least, Stacci! I gotta say, the word unhinged does fit her properly, but gotta give it to her for not giving up. She is obsessed with Davi, to the point where she sends him gifts from her hunting victims…and I’m not talking about clothing items. The girl is a ticking time bomb but she got talent in her hobby. And again, when she finally gets what she wants, she understands that Davi and Darwin are a package deal and she is down for both of them, caring for them in her own way. She did make me chuckle with her bratty tendencies and how everyone around her feared her in a sense because of how “explosive” she is.
I really enjoyed seeing three perspectives through this story. We see more of Davi, giving me the feeling that he has to be the main of the three. But even through Davi, we see the three of them working together, enjoying pleasures together, outright perfect for each other. This was a fun read, can’t wait to see more from this series and if you have read through all this and might still be interested, I remind you once again, read the triggers and make sure you are putting your mental health first!
Graphic: Death, Gore, Torture, Violence, Blood, Murder
Minor: Child abuse, Cannibalism
Read the triggers before reading this book. Keep your mental health a number one priority. If you do read, and something could trigger a negative reaction, stop reading and walk away. I personally don't consider this book to be extremely graphic, but I have read very graphic things so what I can handle can be a no no level for you. So tread carefully!
