Freshers by Tom Ellen, Lucy Ivison
4.0

I picked this book up for 'research' as I am about to be a fresher myself and because finding YA/new adult books set as UK universities is actually pretty hard.

For me, this book pretty much hit all my expectations. Freshers is a good rom-com and the uni setting makes it that extra bit chaotic and exciting. The thing that stood out to me was the female friendships from Pheobe's POV, Negin and Frankie are basically the best Freshers friends you could ask for and, honestly, the highlight of the novel. I also liked the exploration of sexism, fitting in and romantic relationships. Luke and Pheobe are pretty well-developed and the side characters are quirky and fun.

The pace of the plot is good, there are some laugh-out-loud moments and some more serious moments. Overall, this book was a fun, fast read and satisfied my need for UKYA lit. I would recommend this to anyone who, like me, just wanted to read about uni shenanigans.
