This was an engrossing dark and twisted fairytale with elements of gore mixed into a tale of sisterly love. It is fairly fast-paced, and I found myself eager to return to it whenever I needed to step away. While this isn’t a mind blowing book or one that breaks new ground, I think it executed what it set out to do incredibly well. I was at turns enchanted, disturbed and touched by the story and appreciated that it didn’t feel overly YA to me despite the characters’s ages.
Graphic: Blood, Body horror, Gore, and Vomit
Moderate: Bullying, Child death, Cursing, Death, Death of parent, Grief, and Suicide
Minor: Sexual assault
