Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

Rating: 4.5 (rounded up)

Is there ever a Brandon Sanderson book I read and don't walk away from in love with a whole new world? Oh, yeah. That's definitely happened again, which isn't surprising as Mistborn is his other smaller, but just as long-running (thus far), series beside Way of Kings.

Where do I even start? I love all the main characters, especially Kelsier and his band of merry extensively powerful thieves, each of their own power and domain. Vin felt not as formed as the rest, but she'll have several novels yet to flush out, especially as she grows from the shell her previous-to-book training from her brother/the streets/other criminals has left in her. I loved Elend.

I think my only side note is - having started with all of Sanderson's later works (having already finished up to current on Way of Kings, Alcatraz, Legion, etc) I was incredibly surprised I could predict the reveal of 'The Bad Guy' in this one. One of the biggest selling points to me for everyone is how much I can't predict what he's going to do, only have a billion books proof it's really going to be amazing, and utterly character-true, when we get there.

I can tell this very much is a first book, but all the same it's incredibly strong for a first book, and I love being able to see truly how much Brandon has grown from his first book in 2010 to 11 years later.
