Antoinette's Sister by Diana Giovinazzo
2.0

Many know of Queen Marie Antoinette, the Queen of France and her unfortunate end but few know that she had a sister, who was also a Queen.
Maria Carolina Charlotte had married King Ferdinand IV of Naples and so was the Queen of Two Sicilies. Though her marriage at first was unhappy, she grew to love her odd husband and forgive him for his faults. King Ferdinand was a wonderful father, a good husband and loved his people, however he was a terrible king. Charlotte knew it was up to her and she became king in all but name. For years the kingdom thrives under her rule and yet she still is not happy. She worries for her younger sister, and though she appeals for help-everyone is afraid. Unfortunately not even a Queen can save her sister from death.
It was interesting to learn about this person in history that I honestly knew nothing about. As with so many other’s, I only knew of Marie Antoinette and her brothers..I never gave her sisters a second thought. Where Antoinette was young and naive, Charlotte was wise and stubborn. She knew what was needed and wasn’t afraid to fight.
I enjoyed the history but personally felt that the story itself was too long. At times it was dragging and admittedly I checked to see how many pages were left. One part that truly irked me was a reference to the Bible and the book of Ruth that was unfortunately inaccurate. Regardless of one’s beliefs-if you’re going to quote something…you better get it right. Sadly this was not for me.
