I love a thriller but something about this just didn’t grip me and the pacing felt quite strange.

It’s typical for thriller books to pick up later in the story, but this felt like it just escalated so quickly. I did enjoy how the story came together and the layers but I didn’t enjoy Maya as a character.
I didn’t enjoy the denial of her being involved for it then to turn out she killed Joe. It didn’t feel like clever plotting it just felt like withholding to the audience.
The flash forward to end felt like it rounded everything off, perhaps a little sentimental but somewhat sweet.

At times I did feel some confusion as to who was who, but that’s more of a reflection on my concentration levels than the book.
