Journey to the Centre of the Earth
by Jules Verne
3,5 stars
While 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' boasts excellent writing, it failed to captivate me entirely. Nevertheless, I appreciated the story's swift pacing.
The main character did not favor anything he got dragged into by his weird uncle. This gave me an odd and awkward feeling when reading the book. It felt like the character was experiencing a bizarre fever dream without ending, making it so that instead of experiencing wonder and joy at reading about a hidden world, I got the feeling of wanting the character to be safe as soon as possible.
This feeling was not necessarily a bad thing, but it was something I did not expect. I had hoped for a more adventurous feeling when reading this.
The book is still fun, and I am happy I tried it. I just had different expectations of it.
