This was my first time reading anything written by V.E. Schwab, and I was not disappointed. I adore this book wholeheartedly. It was easy to loose myself within the pages of this light gothic tale, and fall in love with each and every aspect. It was paced perfectly in regards to the storyline and suspense, but I will say that it wasn't very complex so it's not like it would be difficult.
Yes, this is not a wholly original story, nor is it the best one in this category, but it's still beautifully done. The writing was carefully curated and poetic, I especially loved the use of colour to paint a picture of setting the mood and vibes, the mass of grey with pops of yellow, blue, green & red. It was lovely.
The main character was easy to fall in love with, I kept thinking of her as the Wednesday Adams type. The side characters were cute, but with this book being short, we didn't get much depth.
The settings, I loved the settings! I really wish I could go visit Gallant because it just sounds beautiful.
Altogether, if you're looking for a quick & easy read that you can easily fall in love with, I'd reccomend this one.
