Beautiful Shattering
by Grace Costello
What if you meet the love of your life, but he's already lost the love of his?
Say no more. I was hooked.
Raven and Briggs couldn't be more different from each other if they tried. Raven is a ball of sunshine, kindergartener teacher and triathlon coach, who finds the positive in anything, and Briggs is a workaholic, CEO of his family's business, who is struggling to come to terms with the death of his wife and first love. To prove to his family that he's coping with the loss, he tells them he going to compete in a triathlon. Little did he know how much work was require to even be remotely prepared to compete in one. When his brother hires Raven as his coach, he had no idea what he was getting himself into - physically and emotionally.
This was a rollercoaster of emotions. There was such a depth to Briggs' character. He was such a broken person, and he wasn't willing to allow himself an ounce of happiness. He wasn't magically changed because Raven paid him attention. The struggle and emotions he went through to heal and be open to even the remote possibility of love or affection was heartbreaking. I really felt for him. His side of the story captured me in a way Raven's side wasn't able to - although I did love her still.
This fills the Grumpy x Sunshine quota. The slow burn was the slowest, most agonising burn that was so worth it in the end. The character development was to die for, there was such a growth in these characters, it felt like you were right there next to them.
I received a copy of this book from the authors as an ARC. This is my honest review.
