The Spite House by Johnny Compton

dark mysterious tense medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

3.5

I honestly really enjoyed this. It felt spooky and creepy like I want a haunted house story to feel, but this also wasn't your average haunted house book. I really wanted more information about one of the characters because it felt like the story was building to answers we just didn't get by the end. Honestly, I don't mind an open-ended story like that, a story that doesn't answer all my questions, but that was truly one of my favorite bits of this book, so I wish there had been more. I would absolutely read more from this author!
