How to Solve Your Own Murder
by Kristen Perrin
medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven:
Character
I struggled to keep track of all the characters & how they were related, but overall it was a fun read. I liked the mc and really liked Crane, but at the same time I‘m glad their plot line didn’t take up too much space. They had their cute moments, but not in a flirting & secretly making out kind of way, more in a she’s passed out against his chest after narrowly escaping death kind of way or in a he’s the only one silently acknowledging her grief kind of way; it added to instead of distracting from the story. I hope their relationship will continue to be explored in the sequel.
The reveal was surprising but a little unbelievable. To a certain extent I expect that in a murder mystery, but a 17 yo killing a friend just bc she’s annoying & a bad friend to her other friend? (And then her son killing that other friend decades later bc she isn’t a good enough friend to his mother, his mother‘s secret might get out & everyone was just too obsessed with each other? Though that one was more believable in comparison)
Moderate: Drug use, Vomit, Murder, Toxic friendship
Minor: Death, Medical content, Grief, Pregnancy
