Winter Oranges by Marie Sexton
4.0
This one is a bit different take on a holiday romance, but will definitely strike a chord with the forbidden lovers, forced separation crowd. In this case it isn’t forbidden romance à la Romeo & Juliet, but rather being separated by time & space. Not gonna lie, suspending reality like that is challenging for me; I really enjoy time-travel stories, but this one adds another layer of magic that can be hard to wrap my head around.
That being said, the romance between Jason & Ben is very, very real. Sometimes achingly so. Watching them navigate their situation solidifies their bond, but it’s also heartbreaking. Too often I found myself wishing Dylan, the paparazzi, and the entire world would just leave them alone. Theirs is a classic case of the world not understanding a situation that’s inexplicable, and I was happy to see Marie Sexton bring about a resolution that gives them a solid foundation for their HEA.
