The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith

3.0

When I heard that this murder mystery was written by JK Rowling, it took me back to the time after the 5th Harry Potter book came out, and then the 6th, when a fair amount of my time was spent in discussion of the clues available to the audience and what they would mean for Harry, for Snape, for Dumbledore. Though I watch a lot more British mystery shows through Netflix than I read, I was pretty excited to put this on hold at my library as soon as I heard the news.

I enjoyed the mystery and the diverse cast of characters, or rather suspects. I hadn't figured out who done it in the end, and it did all tie up fairly neatly with a few red herrings to lead the reader off the track. I was a little annoyed at the doe-eyedness of the trusty side-kick, but she was quick and had initiative, and Cormoran Strike is an easy enough bloke to cheer on. It was a fine rainy weekend's pastime, but there's nothing that has me clawing for next installment. Still I expect I will pick it up and enjoy it.
