I read this book years ago, and decided it was time to revisit it this year. I would say it was more darker and bleak than I remember. I have mixed feelings on this book. On the one hand, I can see why this is regarded as a very important book, and it was nice to pick up on the social commentary that I missed on my initial read. On the other hand, I find Bigger, the main character, even more unlikeable, and while part of me anted to really sympathise with me, I couldn't overlook his heinous actions. I don't know if it was the length and pace of the book, or me having to take time to absorb the content and message of the book, but it took a very long time for me to complete the book.
