The Bright Family by Matthew Cody, Derick Brooks, Carol Burrell

3.0

Sweet, but not particularly investing.

The central plot thread about the parents not caring as much about the kids as science was rushed. Nia's character arc was messy. She kicks the comic off by winning a robotics competition yet she doesn't feel smart enough for the family? It'd be one thing if she was into something creative or was of an average intelligence comparatively. Nope, she's totally brilliant and equal to her brother who is our only frame of reference.

I'm not opposed to the concept since people aren't always able to see their own strengths. However, I didn't think it was executed very well. It felt like an arc was being set up about her not feeling good enough in general because her parents don't show up for her. Her not feeling smart enough specifically is totally different and didn't make sense in my opinion.

I didn't laugh. I didn't cry. Still, there are infinitely worse ways to blow half an hour.
