4.0

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 - this is the over the top, crazy villainous goodness I’ve come to expect from this series, this time with three MCs to share in the craziness.

Andre and Gabriel (aka Shock and Awe) are the most low key members of the Suarez clan, focusing on their art and degree and not getting involved much in the villainous family business. But, when their brother sends them in to get to know more about an unknown entity he has his eye on, they get a lot more than they bargained for. The twins are definitely two parts of a whole but couldn’t be more opposite - Andre is dominant and more aggressive while Gabe is more submissive and shy. Their powers give them the ability to communicate with each other without words and they use that to their advantage when they’re interning for and living with their target - Theo Coatl.

Theo Coatl is an eccentric artist who is known for his over the top and scandalous parties and his wild art/taste. He’s an alien who can take on the physical body of anyone he chooses, but he’s on the run from others of his kind after some decisions he made in his past. Theo is an unrepentant brat who is insistent on getting whatever he wants, even if it seems unattainable at first, like the twins he invites into his home to intern for him.

I wanted to love this story as much as the others in the Villainous Things series, but I felt like something was missing in the relationship between the twins and Theo. I didn’t really feel the connection between them and I wasn’t really a fan of the way the relationship played out with the twins - it felt disjointed and a little awkward to me. Things with Theo and Gabe heat up really fast but bringing in Andre took a while and it felt disjointed. While their dynamic is unique and kind of worked, it wasn’t really for me.

Since this was the last book in the series and the wrap up of the overall plot, I wanted more from the ending - it felt a bit like all the things were wrapped up too conveniently and too quickly just to get to the end. I’m looking forward to seeing where this universe goes in the future, but I just wanted more from the conclusion.
