The Safekeep
by Yael van der Wouden
medium-paced
I really liked the overall story and plot, which was somehow both thrilling and intimate. I really felt all of the persons’ emotions — Isabel’s anger, confusion, pain and generational embarrassment the most. Such complex characters. Despite the ending, the book did not leave me with a happy and resolved feeling; rather with a pit in my stomach that I’m right now not sure what to do about. Will definitely pick up Yael Van Der Wouden’s next novel, if one comes.
