The Lady from the Black Lagoon by Mallory O'Meara

5.0

Like a lot of people, I had no clue who Millicent Patrick was upon picking up this book. To be honest, the cover was what caught my eye. And then the title. And THEN the subject matter. Proving you SHOULD judge books by their cover.
I absolutely loved this book. O’Meara puts so much love into every chapter as well as some warranted rage. You can tell how much work and research went into this tome. It connects so well with today’s Me Too movement and general critique of not having nearly enough non white, straight cis men in the industry. It was also just awesome to learn about Millicent’s life. She didn’t have it easy in the dating world or with men I general, but she was so prolific in spite of it. I’ve never actually watched the creature from the black lagoon, among many other classics (smh), but I certainly will get on that.
