This was a beautiful story. I’ll admit I didn’t know much about the time of migrant workers and their struggles, and although this was a fictionalized story, I felt the stories of the real people who suffered during that time was well represented. The description of difficult mother/daughter relationship between stubborn teenagers and their loving mothers was so well done. The life of Elsa Martinelli wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, it felt raw and real and let my attention throughout the whole story. I sobbed and I laughed along with these characters as they grew and struggled. The character growth in this book was awe-inspiring. I highly recommend.
