Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas

5.0

Cassandra and Severin's story is my absolute favorite of the entire series. If you are a bookworm, this tale will have you laughing every other page as Cassandra recommends a book to Severin and he completely misses the point of the story. But he keeps trying to figure it out, and you enjoy interpretations of classic books that would never have occurred to you.

While it is not explicitly stated, Severin feels like he's on the autistic spectrum perhaps having Asperger's. I enjoyed his character very much because these sorts of characters are so rarely written and if they are, so rarely written in a way that demonstrates how they contribute to society.

Through it all, Cassandra becomes his heart- helping him confront the rejection he faced as a youth and find healing through creating a family with her and the boy he adopts from the street. I love that "creating a family" is Cassandra's super power, because it is no easy task and it should be recognized for the skill it is.

Their contract negotiations for their marriage contract is perhaps one of the funniest scenes I've read this year, and honestly, I think all couples should do so before signing on the bottom line. Severin is depicted as a master negotiator. But Cassandra had his number and gave him a good run for his money.

Out of the whole series, I would read this one again.
